The Church Army has been at the heart of evangelism since it was founded by Prebendary Wilson Carlile in 1882. The aim was to be pioneers, taking the Good News of Jesus Christ to all, but particularly to those on the margins of society and making the message of the Gospel challenging and relevant to an ever changing world.

Our Purpose

Church Army is a Society of Evangelists within the Anglican Communion, which exists to enable people to come to a living faith in Jesus Christ.

There are currently over 350 full-time evangelists and 150 further staff devoted to a wide range of service working in Five Areas of Focus throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Area Evangelism

Raising the profile of outreach by training and resourcing churches and by pioneering new area based evangelism initiatives.

Children and Young People

Working with youth to introduce them to the Christian message in fresh and exciting ways and by helping to identify and use their skills.

Church Planting

Establishing churches in new situations, building relationships between Church and community and training and enabling new church leaders.

Older People

Recognising older peoples' gifts and encouraging them to use them by helping their gifts to reach out to their neighbour.

Homeless People

Helping churches to become involved in projects and initiatives to help the homeless, including providing accommodation and training for homeless people.
